Thames campervan hire

Thames, a fantastic Coromandel gateway.

The gold rush was what brought Thames into being, and its influence remains in the Thames Historical Museum and the names of some of the town’s features, including the Goldfields Mall. Thames is the first port of call for most to the spectacular holiday paradise that is the Coromandel Peninsula, and it makes for a pleasant introduction to the area! The main drag in Thames is Pollen Street, where most shops, restaurants and cafes are located. Whilst not the most happening town there is, Thames has a lot of artists and artisans living in the area, so there are a surprising number of galleries and shops selling beautiful local pieces. Critically acclaimed painter, sculptors and photographers live in Thames and are inspired by the natural beauty of the area and the wider Coromandel Peninsula. From Thames, all roads lead to wonderful scenery. This may be the pretty coastal road that goes north along the coast of Thames, or the mountainous State Highway crossing the Peninsula to Tairua. A more adventurous road to follow is the Kauaeranga Valley Road which leads up to some great hikes, campgrounds and historic Kauri logging relics. A campervan trip from Thames can only mean one thing- the Coromandel. This spit of land is one of the most road trip-worthy places in the world, thanks to it’s abundance of beaches, native bush and friendly holiday towns.
