Blenheim campervan hire

Sunny Blenheim

Blenheim is found in the Marlborough region in the north of New Zealand’s South Island- this area is best known for its vineyards and wineries which benefit from the many days of sunshine it receives each year. The town is the region’s most populous, with 30,000 residents, and is a centre for the area’s wine and farming endeavours. It attracts both residents and visitors with its sunny climate and ready access to the great outdoors- or perhaps it’s just the wine! Blenheim is just inland from the coast, centered around Main Street which is home to most of the shops, restaurants and cafes. A yearly event which puts Blenheim on the map is the Marlborough Food and Wine Festival which takes place at the Brancott Estate winery just outside of the town. Thousands of lovers of good food and wine gather once a year to experience gourmet tidbits from local caterers, restaurants and wineries. There is a weekly Farmer’s Market in the city during the warmer months for more regular local food fixes, and an art gallery and provincial museum to peruse. On the coast to the east of Blenheim is the Big Lagoon, which has a popular surf spot at its mouth. Most of the wineries are concentrated to the east and north of the town, and include names such as Cloudy Bay, Wither HIlls, Villa Maria and Fromm. Picton and the stunning Marlborough Sounds are just 30 minutes drive from Blenheim, or 1.5 hours if you take the incredibly scenic but winding Port Underwood Road- this is an experience in itself rather than a means to reach a destination! A Blenheim pick-up is a great way to avoid big cities and tour the sunny northern South Island. Nelson, the Abel Tasman National Park, Farewell Spit and Kaikoura are all within easy reach.
